James Blunt - You're Beautiful
With his military days behind him, Blunt embarked on his dream of a
career in music. James performed at shows using the stage name
“Blunt” as it was easier to spell. Despite his efforts, Blunt was
having a hard time getting his foot in the door. That is, until
Linda Perry paid a visit to
London
in 2003. At the time, Perry had just started her own label Custard
Records back in the United States. Perry developed
an interest in Blunt after listening to his demo during her visit to
London. Perry was so impressed she went to
watch Blunt perform at the South by Southwest Music Festival.
After meeting Perry, Blunt was immediately signed to Custard Records and
sent overseas to Los Angeles
to begin work on an album.
While in Los Angeles Blunt worked with music producer Tom Rothrock on
what would soon be known as the “Back to Bedlam” album. Blunt spent most
of 2003 in the United States
recording the album in Rothrock’s home studio.

“Back to Bedlam” made its
UK
debut in 2004. The first single to be released from the album was
“High.” At the time of its release “Back to Bedlam” failed to
generate any public interest whatsoever. Despite the slow start,
James Blunt continued to promote the album and perform throughout
England.
It was not until “You’re Beautiful” was released that Blunt would soon
become a star. The hit single climbed its way to the number one
spot on the
UK charts, and
shortly after “Back to Bedlam” did the same. After dominating the
UK, “You’re Beautiful” soon took over
the world.
